Rory's deft precision a triumph for Titleist

Rory McIlroy made all sorts of good decisions at Congressional, but none were better than opting to wield his Scotty Cameron Newport GSS style putter. The Northern Irishman, who has adorned the Newport Fastback flatstick for the majority of his career, discount golf equipment decided the toe flow of the GSS was working much better with his stroke after a recent session with putting instructor Dave Stockton Jr.

McIlroy averaged 1.65 putts per green with his Scotty Cameron Newport GSS Prototype, featuring a chromatic bronze finish – the putter may as well have been gold as he raced home for maiden major success at the US Open by eight shots.

But it was not just his pure putting stroke that wowed the Maryland crowds. The young Ulsterman's 310-yard bombing drives placed him in the top-10 for driving distance, while his laser-like Titleist MB iron-play led the field in greens in regulation.TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver The Titleist brand ambassador's legendary tale of precision saw him miss just ten greens in 72 holes, for a staggering 86% average - something unheard of for a US Open.

"The whole week was special - I could not ask for anything more," said McIlroy, who has now led after seven of the eight major championship rounds this season.
"When you're swinging well and you’re that comfortable, everything just seems so rhythmical, even the way you walk and your whole thought process.
"There was no real swing thought this week. I was just seeing the target and hitting it.
"It was just one of those weeks where everything was on and it worked out the right way."

The MB irons feature a uniform muscle shape that provides greater mass behind the impact area to achieve that desired soft, TaylorMade R9 Driversolid feel. This weighting also produces consistent launch angle, backspin and ball speed in order to create precise distance and shot control – as McIlroy demonstrated in Bethesda.

McIlroy, who became the youngest winner of the US Open, rolled his Pro V1x ball into the cup for 19 birdies, one eagle and 48 pars - but most importantly, he made just two bogeys and one double-bogey. The Northern Irishman uses Golf Pride grips - as used by 81% of the US Open field.
